Embedded LTE GNSS Wi-Fi Antennas for Security Cameras

2026-09-11

A connected security camera may use LTE for remote access, GNSS for location or time information and Wi-Fi for local communication. An embedded antenna arrangement must accommodate these different radio functions within the camera housing. The VLG V1092-029-A-02 and ZHY977 V2189-031-A-01 reference designs provide examples for evaluating compact internal antenna layouts.

Key specifications and selection criteria

Start with the camera radio architecture

List the cellular modem, GNSS receiver and Wi-Fi radio, then identify their antenna inputs. The design documents describe separate functions and leads; obtain the released feed drawing before treating the arrangement as a single-port antenna. Antennas carry RF signals, while the connected electronics handle video transfer, location calculation and local networking.

Place each element for its function

The GNSS element needs a useful view of the sky, while the cellular and Wi-Fi elements need suitable clearance and radiation coverage. Housing metal, heat sinks and batteries constrain the available positions. Plan these spaces early enough to adjust the antenna layout before the mechanical design is fixed.

Compare the listed ZHY977 frequency requirements

The ZHY977 specification lists cellular operation at 820–2700 MHz, GNSS at 1561 and 1575 MHz, and Wi-Fi at 2400–2500 and 5150–5850 MHz. Confirm installed performance at the actual channels and modem bands, rather than interpreting the general description as universal compatibility.

Test recording and transmission together

Check reception while video processing, power conversion and cellular transmission are active. Review GNSS operation during uploads and Wi-Fi transfers. A layout that fits mechanically should still be validated for each radio and for simultaneous operation.

Frequently asked questions

Is every listed function carried by one RF cable?

Do not assume so. The documents describe multiple functional leads, so the complete antenna-port drawing is required.

Can embedded antennas remove the need for cellular coverage?

No. Remote cellular access still depends on the network and the camera’s modem and service configuration.
