A connected dash cam needs more than a cellular antenna. Video upload, position logging and local phone connectivity place different demands on the RF design. Separate positioning from cellular communication

The ceramic GNSS element provides a dedicated satellite-reception path, while the flexible printed circuit antenna can fit along a suitable section of the camera housing. This gives the designer more placement options than forcing every function into one location. The useful outcome depends on the enclosure, ground arrangement and separation between radiators.

Test the camera while its radios are active

Antenna evaluation should reflect actual camera use: recording, LTE upload, Wi-Fi video transfer and GNSS tracking. Power supplies, processors and display electronics can affect a sensitive receive path. Compare reception with these functions enabled, and correct the interference reference or layout when needed.

Specify the GNSS receiver before selecting the ceramic antenna

Start with the receiver’s required satellite bands, bias supply and antenna input limits. A ceramic structure alone does not define positioning accuracy, and a GPS/BeiDou label does not identify every supported frequency. Confirm the antenna variant and full band-specific test report for the camera project.

Prepare the mechanical design for production

Reserve antenna clearance before the housing is frozen. Provide the available cavity dimensions, plastic material, metal shielding locations and connector requirements. Confirm cable routing, adhesive contact surfaces and strain relief on assembled samples. Repeat the RF check after mechanical changes.

Select the antenna by measured performance in the intended installation. Ground plane, orientation, available volume and the receiver requirements all matter.
